Rendez-vous with Harley Viera Newton

She's 20, lives in NYC, is a full-time Egyptology major at NYU, plays bass for Lissy Trullie and DJ for her main job. Oh and she just signed with Elite. Meet Harley Viera Newton, a busy girl with a great sense of style and beautiful long hair ("No, i'm not cutting my hair anytime soon"). Being called an It-girl, or, even moreso, an Internet It-girl, makes Harley laugh. "I feel like I've made fun of people called It-girls," she says.
.
At first, she dismisses it, she finds the label "a little embarrassing," explaining it tends to connote someone whose goals don't extend beyond being photographed, or partying. But like said before: Harley is a hardworking girl. Intresting is that she says she "looked like a whore" at her high school prom. She wore a Balenciaga blue knee-length dress. "It was silk and buttoned down." And then to the after-thing she wore this vintage Alaia dress with six-inch Alexander McQueen heels. "I was like, 'I look good tonight,' and looking back, I'm like, 'You look like a whore!' I had my hair in a slick-back pony or something really embarrassing."

Harley is a recent fan of the crop top. She's been trying to bring that back. "I found this incredible shredded, Union Jack crop top, it's like sooo kitsch and awful and in the same way amazing." Her style icon is Tom Binns. "He could tell me to wear a cardboard box and I would." So it isn't a surprise that Harley wears Tom Binns jewelry everyday. "I'll sleep in this…when you take this off (points under wrist) it's like another color under here!"
.
She has usually one pair of shoes a season that she just wears everyday and every night. This season Harley chose Chloé Doc Martens wedges, the low ones. "They're pretty wild, but I love Doc Martens and any reappropriation of that I'm into." Harley is also crazy about her small Chanel purse. "I wear it every single day at all times." And on top of all this Harley collects band t-shirts. But only from bands she likes. Oh and if your intrested: some of Harley's famous friends are Mischa Barton, Cory Kennedy, Alice Dellal and Mark Hunter (the Cobrasnake).

They wear their sunglasses at night

When I saw the pictures of Madonna attending a Sabbath service at Manhattan’s Kabbalah Centre Friday last saturday, I just knew I'd seen those sunglasses before! And yep, I was right: Lindsay Lohan wore the same pair of Chanel 416oQ's last february. To be honest: I'm not really into the 4160Q's, I don't know why. They just seem a little bit odd looking to me, maybe it's the shape or something. Anyway, on the left is Lindsay Lohan and on the right is Madonna.

Mary Kate Olsen likes his sunglasses

I've always been kinda intrigued by the Olsen twins. I don't know why, but somehow I just really like them. They are not the greatest actresses in the world, but they aren't that bad. And, not to forget, they both have an amazing sense of fashion! Although I'm not really into MK's style, I adore Ashley's style. Anyway, I was watching a clip of Mary Kate's appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman (june 26) and I think she tried to tell musician Paul Schaffer by making gestures, that she liked his sunglasses. Watch the clip here

See you in the arena

Well, where should I start... I think a lot of you already know that gladiator sandals are a huge trend this summer. But I still want to dedicate a trend-post to the 'gladiator's'! We all know what gladiators are, so I don't have to explain that. If you don't know what they are: shame on you! Go google it. Ashley & Mary-Kate Olsen wore gladiator sandals already last year. Ashley went for the ankle-sandal, while MK went knee-high. Now A. and MK. were spotted with gladiator sandals, other celebs couldn't stay behind and soon whole female-hollywood started to follow this trend. The result of all this? Gladiator sandals are taking over the world this summer!

Miley & Naomi: wanted!

Ah well, it's always fun to see people wearing the same clothes. On the left is Miley Cyrus, 15 year old actress and singer and on the right we have Naomi Campbell, 38 year old model. I don't know exactly when the picture of Miley is taken, but I think it was a few months ago. Naomi was spotted wearing the same t-shirt a few days ago.

Rendez-vous with Clémence Poésy

Clémence Poésy is an actress/model born in France. Clémence started acting at the age of 14 and continued schooling until the age of 16, when she got an agent and went on to study acting. She has appeared in several French films and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is only the second English film she has been in. The other was Gunpowder, Treason and Plot (2004), in which she played the role of Mary, Queen of Scots.

Clémence on acting in an other language: "It’s – strangely – easier. It’s a bit like playing with a mask on. You allow yourself to do more than you do in your own language. You’re not listening to [the words] as much, which is the worst thing you can do when you’re acting. You’re closer to playing the emotions. Well, maybe that’s just me."
.
The 25-year-old has a perfectly unstudied style. She favors a street-smart mix peppered with designer names like Balenciaga, Chloé, and Isabel Marant. She has been spotted in the front row at exclusive Paris fashion shows, has a penchant for girlie yet edgy labels, and exudes a serene beauty. "Beauty comes from who you’re with, what you’re doing, what you’re reading, the sport you’re doing,"
.
The only thing I can say after this quote is: GO CLÉMENCE!

I'm sorry

Yes, I truly am. I haven't updated this blog in 10 days! The reason for lack of updates is that I've been on a city trip for a few days! It was amazing. Anyway, read the new rendez-vous with Clémence Poésy: model, actress and fashion icon.

Sweet music: Agyness Deyn

Most of you maybe know her as an english supermodel, but the British supermodel is releasing a single titled 'Who' on June 23rd. The 25-year-old Agyness collaborated with the New York band Five O'Clock Heroes on the single.

(Five O'Clock Heroes & Agyness Deyn - Who)

Although lots of people were afraid it would hurt her career, after seeing this music video they will definatley change their opinions. Celeb-blogger Perez Hilton thinks Agyness sounds 'a little Kate Bush-y'.
.
Agyness Deyn (born Laura Hollins) is from Littleborough in Greater Manchester. Deyn's working life started serving cod, chips and mushy peas part-time at 17, which she did in Ramsbottom. Agyness has come a long way in the nine years since she first came to the attention of the folk of Rossendale – winning the Free Press’s Face of '99 competition. The 16-year-old – then Laura Hollins – was living in Cloughfold, when she and Barney Horton, 19, were chosen as the king and queen of the Valley catwalk. The pair won an exclusive photo shoot with Free Press snapper Tony Cross in what was one of Laura’s first modelling assignments. Even at that early stage she had the potential to go the very top, according to Tony. He said: ‘She was quite natural in front of the camera and was quirkily attractive and beautiful.’
.
Deyn has appeared in advertisements for Blugirl by Blumarine, Burberry, Cacharel, John Galliano, Gianfranco Ferrè, Giorgio Armani, Mulberry, Paul Smith, and Vivienne Westwood. In 2007 she won the 'Model of the Year' award at the British Fashion Awards. But besides that Deyn is tipped as a successor to Kate Moss!

Rocking the black blazer

We can thank Coco Chanel for giving us the perfect jacket to top everything from skirts to jeans. A great blazer or jacket can dress up any outfit and protect women from blasts of overzealous air conditioning systems everywhere. Blazers aren't just for schoolgirls or bank tellers. Whether you are going to work, a club, a soccer game, or the theater, your blazer can dress up your jeans, skirt, pants, or cocktail dress. A fashionable blazer can take the place of a sweater on a cool night. Check out ShopWiki for some 'how to fit'-information.

Sweet music: Lights

Her real name is Valerie Poxleitner and she describes herself as 'small girl who dwells in Toronto and makes music.' Lights is a Canadian synth-pop singer and songwriter best known for her song February Air, featured in the February 2008 Old Navy commercials. She composes and sings powerful and beautiful electronic indie-pop songs.
.
(Lights - February Air)
.
Lights grew up in a musical family. When asked about when she wrote her first song, Lights has said "I was eleven, and I learned three chords on the guitar it was the first time I really learned how to play guitar and I wanted to write a song with them so I went down to my mom and I said pick a number between 1 and 150 and she picked 5 or something, I can’t really remember the number, but I went and opened up the Bible and there was 150 Psalms already written so I went to the number she chose and wrote a song with that and that kicked off the biggest thing of my life."
.
Lights got her break while modeling at the age of fifteen for a Wal-Mart flyer. The makeup artist on the shoot heard her sing and introduced her to singer-songwriter Jian Ghomeshi, who developed her first demo and now manages Lights.

Rendez-vous with Daisy Lowe

It-girl Daisy Lowe was born to be a star. She is the 19-year-old daughter of fashion scenester Pearl Lowe and Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale and she modeled for the first time at age 2, although she admits that modeling “was never something she wanted to do.” But Daisy changed her attitude in 2005, when she was spotted by a talent scout who encouraged her to give modeling a second chance.

In 2004 a DNA test reveals that Lowe is the daughter of Bush front man (and Gwen Stefani’s husband) Gavin Rossdale, who up until now has been Lowe’s godfather. "It was a really weird time in my life. I stopped going out and just sort of hid from it a lot. The press - they were absolutely horrible, just w*nkers". Daisy considers Pearl's husband, Supergrass drummer Danny Goffey, her "dad", adding, "I definitely don't call Gwen 'Stepmum'".

Daisy Lowe has a brilliant career as a fashion model ahead of her. She has already appeared in Italian Vogue, W Magazine, and Jane. She was featured in advertisements for French Connection and she replaced Kate Moss for Agent Provocateur. Daisy will also appear on screen in Class Of 2008. It’s being billed as an “observational documentary series that follows six up-and-coming young talented people in London on their creative journeys”. Famous friends of Daisy are Peaches Geldof, Pixie Geldof, Liv Tyler and Agyness Deyn.

Sweet music: One Night Only

One Night Only is another indie-rock band from the UK. They started out as a bunch of school friends 'just making noise' in their rural hometown of Helmsley in North Yorkshire where they got banned from their rehearsal spaces because they were too loud. "The first one was in a historic village with a monastery and we were just doomed from the start," recalls George. "Then we went to this dugout place underneath the town hall and trashed that as well. Well, we didn't trash it, they just didn't like the holes in the walls they kept finding."
.
(One Night Only - It's about time)
.
Last October Steve Lamacq began spinning the demo of You And Me, prompting the band to really take themselves seriously. George dropped out of school and they frantically phoned every venue in the UK asking for gigs. They got about ten and the A&R pack duly pounced: some caught them first at Liverpool's Cavern Club in front of a bus full of their most mosh-happy York fans and within a month every major label in the UK was trekking up to their rehearsal room for a personal showcase.
.
"We knew friends' bands who'd had a bit of interest from labels and gone down to London to play to them and it was like 'go away, come back when you're a bit older'. So we didn't want to do that, we cancelled all our shows and said 'if you want to see us you'll have to come to York'," said George."Then we hired out the rehearsal room, practiced there for a week, got really tight and then we did individual showcases. We were so tired by the end of it. We couldn't be arsed to talk to them. We'd had all week of doing three a day, all asking the same questions." A funny fact about the band is that they have recorded and uploaded their own message onto Limewire, preventing people from downloading their music and explaining that downloading music that way is "a bit illegal".

Fringe fever

A fringe (or bangs in the United States and Canada) is the front part of the hair, cut to hang or curl over the forehead. Hairstyles that feature fringes or bangs have come and gone out of fashion as frequently as other hairstyles, and they can be worn in any number of styles. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, poofy, curly, teased fringes were in fashion. In 2006, the fringe saw another massive revival as a hair trend, this time thick, deep and blunt-cut. But it looks like 2008 is gonna be another fringe-year. The 2008 fringe is different. You could call it an out of bed-fringe: it's kind of messy, but at the same time you can make it look chic.
